It’s so nice to be in my own home and just knowing I will not be doing any big traveling any time soon. It’s been a long few months, between the traveling and all that’s happened. You know what; it’s really been a long few years. I was afraid when the phone rang, worries it would be bad news & as time went on I was worried it would be the worst news, I’d never imagine I’d be the one making the phone call. That was very tough. I wanted to be there for my brother, but my Dad had to know. I remember thinking of my Dad just moments after and how terrible I feel for him, he’s got to be so lonely. Then my Dad arrived and we just sat there. I didn’t want to leave her, I didn’t want to leave her alone in that room, the last four walls she saw the last 11 days of her life. But my Dad was ready to go and he’s the only parent I have left. I’ve lost the 2 closest women in my life, my Gram and my Mom. The two women who have taught me so much and help me become the woman I am today. I still miss my Gram & ache for my Mom.

Well hello blog, remember me? It’s been awhile since I’ve been on this thing. Well what do you know, it’s spring again in the great state of Minnesota. I was listening to the Peter Gabriel song the other day “Grieve” not sure if that is the exact title, but it got me thinking. No matter what’s going on in your life not matter what kind of chaos or what kind of sadness, the sun will rise, the seasons will change, and night will turn into day. Right now, for me one day at a time are words to truly live by. About six weeks back or so I was in this terrible funk and just down and depressed and I don’t know something just snapped and I realized I can’t make everyone happy and I can’t worry about it any more. I’ve also realized I can’t be depressed about things I can’t control. I was nervous when the phone rang, thinking someone on the other end of the phone was calling to give me bad news. I worry when I can’t get a hold of people, especially my Mom, she’s always so worn out these days. It’s hard living so far away right now. My Mom is my after work phone call, sometimes it’s a laugh fest as we get caught up on the family gossip or it’s just a quick how was your day. These past two weeks have been hard b/c my after work phone call hasn’t been happening. I miss my Mom, are you ever too old to just miss your Mom?

take care

I think it’s finally here, SPRING SPRING SPRING!!! Although this is Minnesota it’ll probably snow some more before this month is up. For now the snow has melted and the dog excrement has surfaced to the top, that’s okay, we’re fertilizing the lawn, the cheap way.

I’m enjoying life in MN, the community I live in is just wonderful, in December Santa rides throughout the neighborhoods on a fire truck, July is the annual national night out where families come together and shoot the breeze over brats & beer, and the weekly concerts in the park during the warm months where you can hear a polka band one week & a jazz group the next while you sit on your blanket having a picnic with your family.

I think it’s interesting that I grew up in a place where weather does not play a major role in life, but my daughter will grow up in a place with four definite seasons, will know the beauty of the first snowfall of winter & complain about it for the rest of the season.

It was 63 degrees today & we ate dinner outside on our deck. I still remember when 63 degrees was cold.

CC is a little gymnast these days, she and I have been in a toddler class for some time, she really enjoys the class, I never knew gymnastic floors were so springy, kinda fun to run on. That’s been our Tuesday thing for months; she’ll even be in a “Spring Show” in May.

Our other activity is swimming, she’s been in swim lessons on & off for just over a year. Today she was in the water with just her classmates & teacher, the Moms were in swimsuits ready to jump in if tears couldn’t be splashed away. CC did great in the water, but this leads me to a pet peeve. Okay, so I’m at the YMCA in the locker room & there are kids & adults changing for swimming or to go workout. One family is having a very loud discussion, a woman & two children. The adult proceeds to yell at the children and use profanity, I am very glad I was solo in the locker room. CC is at the age where she’s pretty much a tape recorder & repeats just about everything she hears, those are not words I want her learning right now. I just don’t think it’s appropriate for people to use poor language in a public confined space, and of all places the YMCA.

This starts me thinking about other tangents. Who decided what words were considered “bad words” and what makes them bad? What is the common factor for profanity? Why are some bothered by it and others not? As for me, I don’t generally use “bad words” in public or in a professional setting. I don’t like to hear it in public or in a professional setting, however I wouldn’t say I’m offended by profanity, just something that came to me 1:40 AM.

Did I mention I’m really digging LOST . . . thanks Team Koss.

take care,

I’m ready for SPRING!!!! My lawn looks like it has a five o’clock shadow. The grass blades are peaking through the snow. We had a beautiful week last week, temperatures got up into the 50s. I’ve heard 50 degrees is the temperature people put jackets on and take them off. The snow started to melt and it felt like spring was right around the corner. Guess what, it SNOWED. You know if Boston can dye their river green for St. Patrick’s Day, why can’t Minnesota dye the snow green? SPRING BREAK AND SPRING FEVER. I want the sun to shine damn it, well okay the sun shines, but I would really enjoy some heat from that huge gas ball in the galaxy.

As for other bits and parts of Team Shea, CC is putting one foot in front of the other, enjoys swim lessons, and she’s learning she can catch Gatsby. Hubby is working hard as usual. Looking forward to the end of the semester and the beginning of the salsa garden. By the way, did I mention we’re planning to visit the John Denver memorial?

take care
