video killed the radio star

Posted in Thoughts by Kate

What do you think about music? I’m sitting here listening to some piano music from an internet radio station. It’s beautiful. There are some pieces of music that makes my heart jump. It is very clichĂ©, but it moves me. I’ve noticed the music that does this to me is instrumental. I think that’s because I can put my own words to the notes. When words are already present and part of a song you’re given what the songs is about. Now I know there is an argument that can be made that lyrics do not define a song. For someone like me. one who is not a huge music person (I can read music and play an instrument or two at the novice level) lyrics guide my imagery of songs. You should see some of the pictures I come up with when I don’t understand the words! Makes me wonder if I heard a song for the first time without its lyrics and then later with its lyrics… wait a minute! That happened to me once. You know the theme song from MASH? Growing up as a kid watching the TV show, I liked the music. It wasn’t moving because I always associated images from the TV when I heard the song. Later in life I found out the title for the theme song is “Suicide is Painless” and I heard the lyrics. In my mind those lyrics did not match those notes.

This and That

Posted in Thoughts by Kate

Things have been a bit hectic to say the least at casa Shea. Knock on wood I’ve been feeling really good, just tired a lot. It’s been so hot lately we went out and bought a little pool to keep cool. It comes with a pump and can hold five or six adults. We christened it on Sunday with some friends over. We swam and ate bbq. Super K decided to cool in the pool, didn’t bring a swim suit, so she jumped in fully clothed, including her jeans.

Has anyone seen the Al Gore documentary “An Inconvenient Truth?” Any thoughts or opinions to share? I think it’s funny that some people went to see the movie to get out of the heat.

Last Sunday I watched Meet the Press, what an interview it was. Mister Russert discussed stem cell research and the Middle East situation. As a matter of fact Monday evening we had a very interesting and intelligent discussion on both topics with some good friends. It’s nice to talk about current events and have different points of view to share without raising voices and hurting feelings.

Before the baby I use to think, do we really want to bring a child in to this world? Especially with events like 9-11 and the Danielle Van Dam tragedy. Now, we have so much love and joy to share with this little one, I feel like team Shea can survive anything.

Catching up

It’s been over a month since I’ve posted. Lots and lots is going on. Mothers day and Fathers day have come and gone. May gray, June gloom, are part of the past and July Fry is here. We finally visited the Getty Villa in Malibu. Simply breath taking. June brought us to the great state of MO. We visited some family in the Ozarks. An absolutely beautiful place. Lots of peace and quite. Definitely some different experiences, got my first tick, rustled up some horses, and waded in a river. A wonderful trip and a much needed RELAXING vacation. The fourth was nice had dinner with the fam and spent some time with friends. We’ve switched vets recently, our new vet is much closer to home and gave Gatsby a clean bill of health.
